Autobiography:
Marilyn developed her career around her love of books and reading.
She trained as a teacher-librarian specialising in children’s literature and primary (grade) school teaching.
Marilyn has taught English and mathematics to children from prep grade to year nine in secondary schools over three decades. She later retrained as a literacy specialist.
Marilyn found many opportunities to teach children who had difficulty learning to read. She has taught many students (including adults) to read and write English.
She still does this as a private tutor and has an adult writing class.
After sitting with many frustrated students who did not know how to decode (sound out) words, Marilyn devised a series of lessons that allowed students to sound out words quickly.
These lessons are the foundation of this book.
